Barbara Gurley

Barbara GurleyAs a resident of Las Vegas for 33 years, Barbara Gurley has been happily teaching at Violin Outlet for over 20 years. She holds a Bachelors of Music Degree from the University of East Carolina, at Greenville, N.C. Prior to her present principal cello position with the Nevada Chamber Symphony she played with orchestras across three continents. Ms. Gurley has also worked with nearly every major entertainment celebrity appearing in Las Vegas since 1977.


Elena Kapustina

Elena KapustinaElena Kapustina graduated from the Belarus State Conservatory with a Masters in music pedagogy and cello performance, winning numerous awards during her studies. In 1990 she was invited to audition in Bulgaria for the National Opera, Plovdiv, where she performed for 13 years in the position of assistant principal. During these years, she performed in many European and Asian countries, such South Korea, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Belgium and Denmark, and taught cello in her private studio in Bulgaria. In 2003, she moved to the United States. Currently, she is a member of the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches cello to aspiring students.


Jason Markel

Jason MarkelJason Markel began playing cello at the age of 11. While in high school, Jason was a guest musician in 4 of the local high schools in Modesto, CA, where he grew up. He was also a member of the Modesto Junior College Orchestra, and cellist in 3 actively performing string quartets. He earned top marks in local competitions and festivals, earning numerous Command Performance awards for solo performances in Solo and Ensemble festivals. Jason earned an Associate in Arts degree from American River College in Sacramento, CA, a Bachelor in Music degree for Cello Performance and a Master in Music for Chamber Music at Wichita State University in Kansas. Jason has played cello for 24 years, and now teaches cello privately for the Amadeus Music School at Violin Outlet in Las Vegas, NV.


Richard Straub

Richard StraubRichard Straub grew up in South Bend, Indiana and was a cello student of the renowned Marian Johnson. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.M. in Music Education where he studied double bass with Murray Grodner and jazz with David Baker. While in the "President's Own" Marine Band, he studied four years with Roger Scott, principal bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mr. Straub moved to Las Vegas in 1975, and is currently in demand as a cellist, bassist, and pianist.
